How to grow Phalaenopsis in winter? Can it be exposed to the sun in winter?

1. Control the temperature

The suitable temperature for its growth is around 25 degrees, and it is not cold-resistant. The temperature is low in winter, so the first thing to do is to control the temperature. It is best to maintain the temperature above 20 degrees during the day and above 15 degrees at night to ensure a smooth winter. If the temperature is below 15 degrees, the plant will stop growing and may even get frostbite in severe cases. The temperature in winter is suitable, so the plants can accumulate nutrients better, which promotes better flowering and growth in the next year.

2. Watering in moderation

In winter, the growth rate of Phalaenopsis is relatively slow and the temperature is low, so the amount of water should be reduced. Before watering each time, you should check the dryness of the soil in the pot. When the soil is dry, water it appropriately. Be careful not to water it all at once, just make sure the surface soil is moist. Also be careful not to let the leaves get wet, otherwise the roots will easily rot. Watering should be done at noon when the temperature is high to reduce damage.

3. Adequate lighting

It likes diffuse light environment, and the light in winter is very soft, so you can let it bask in the sun without worry. It is recommended to place it on the south windowsill indoors and expose it to sunlight for more than 8 hours a day. This will be beneficial for wintering and flowering next year. Sufficient light can speed up flowering.

4. Control fertilization

Its growth cannot be separated from fertilizer. However, fertilization in winter must be determined according to the temperature. If the temperature can be well controlled and kept above 15 degrees, appropriate amounts can be applied to ensure sufficient nutrients. If the temperature is low, the plant will stop growing and will not need fertilizer, so you must stop applying fertilizer, otherwise the roots will not be able to absorb it and the roots will be burned.
