Breeding methods and precautions of Rhododendron ovata

Breeding methods and precautions of Rhododendron ovata

1. Soil requirements

When growing, Rhododendron ovata needs to be cultivated in soil suitable for it. It is usually most suitable to choose some acidic soil for breeding. However, the soil in the northern region is very alkaline, so if you want to grow it, the potting soil needs to be prepared in a certain way before use.

2. Fertilizer and water management

The root system of Rhododendron ovata is very delicate, so the requirements for fertilizer concentration and water quality are very strict. When applying fertilizer to it, be sure to use the right amount. In order to make its branches, leaves and buds grow better before it blooms in spring, you can apply phosphorus fertilizer to it once a month. After flowering, you can apply 1 to 2 times of nitrogen fertilizer mixed fertilizer. You can apply phosphorus fertilizer 1 to 2 times in September or October. During the growth and flowering periods, a lot of fertilizer and water are required, but when it is dormant in winter and summer, less is required, so it is necessary to control it at this time to prevent root rot. In addition, the weather in the north is relatively dry, so you should water or spray the plants in time to increase the humidity.

3. Regular plastic surgery

In order to make the plant bloom faster, you should pay attention to pruning it regularly. Generally, pinching is used to promote the sprouting of branches. For those flowers that are relatively compact and affect the flower shape, the buds can be thinned out in advance. This will not only make the flowers more colorful, but also allow it to bloom and grow more smoothly in the next year. It has a relatively strong germination ability, so sometimes proper pruning is also needed to maintain its beautiful appearance, so that its ornamental and commercial value will be maintained.

4. Control of flowering period

It usually differentiates flower buds in autumn. At this time, we need to artificially control the flowering period by refrigerating or raising the temperature. If you want it to bloom early, you can move it to a greenhouse for cultivation. The temperature should be between 20 and 25 degrees, and you should also spray water on the branches and leaves frequently. If you want to delay it, keep it in a low temperature state, the temperature will be between 2 and 4 degrees. Water it when the soil in the pot is dry. Move it outside in the summer and it will bloom in 2 weeks.
