The reasons and solutions for the yellowing of cycad leaves

One reason: insufficient light

During the period when Cycas revoluta is growing new leaves, it must be maintained in full sun until the leaves harden and then moved to semi-shade. If sufficient light is not guaranteed during the growth period, its leaves will easily turn yellow.

Reason 2: Improper watering

Improper watering can be divided into two situations: overwatering and underwatering. During the growth period of the new leaves of the iron tree, sufficient water needs to be provided, but it is important to avoid keeping the soil in the pot wet for a long time, otherwise the root system will easily suffer from oxygen deprivation, resulting in poor plant growth and yellowing of the leaves. Of course, lack of water can also cause the leaves to turn yellow. The specific characteristic is that the leaves turn yellow from the bottom to the top, and the old leaves turn yellow first. If you do not water the plant in time, the leaves of the whole plant will turn yellow, or even die.

Reason 3: Improper fertilization

If too much fertilizer is applied or the fertilizer concentration is too high, the leaves of the cycad will turn yellow. The young leaves are thick and shiny, with an uneven surface. The solution is to control the use of fertilizer, tillage, and water appropriately. If the young leaves and tender stems of the cycad begin to turn yellow first, it is most likely caused by insufficient fertilization and long intervals between fertilizations. Fertilization needs to be done in time at this time, otherwise the whole plant will turn yellow or even die. It should be noted that you should avoid applying a large amount of concentrated fertilizer at one time, otherwise it will cause root burn.

Reason 4: Alkaline soil

Cycas revoluta likes slightly acidic sandy soil. Soil alkalinization will also cause the leaves of Cycas revoluta to turn yellow. You can use 500 times diluted ferrous sulfate solution to water the potting soil once a week. Continuous watering for several times can alleviate the degree of yellowing of the leaves.

Reason 5: Pests and diseases

Pests and diseases are also one of the reasons why the leaves of Cycas revoluta turn yellow. Carefully observe whether there are red spider mites, scale insects, etc. on the leaves, and spray pesticides in time for corresponding prevention and control. If yellow spots appear on the leaves, you can spray carbendazim or other insecticides to kill bacteria.
