What are the main varieties of lilac?

Syringa

The plant height is about 3 to 7 meters. The flowering period is April to May, and the fruiting period is June to July. The flower is purple in bud state, and light purple when in full bloom, with a faint fragrance. Especially when planted in groups, the fragrance is stronger, but very refreshing. It is a plant native to southeastern Europe and is now grown in most parts of China.

Syringa leucophylla

It is also called white lilac and is grown in most parts of my country. Its buds and flowers are white, and its flowering period is May.

Syringa purpurea

Its flowers are purple-red and the flowering period is also in May.

Double lilac

The flowers are blue and are composed of multiple layers of petals.

Except for the flower color and the multiple layers of petals, everything else of the above four types are the same, including the growing environment and maintenance methods. But there is another type that is very different from them in terms of growth environment and plant morphology.

Syringa cyanus

The height of the plant is about 2 to 3 meters, and the flowers are white and light blue-purple. The flowering period is after mid-April. This is a plant native to Europe, growing at an altitude of 1,200 meters.

Except for the European lilac which is the prototype, the other four are its variations, but they all inherit the fragrance of the original species and are extremely ornamental.
