Plant Culture of ClematisA long time ago, there was an ancient temple on a mountain somewhere in the south of the Yangtze River. The name of the temple was Weiling Temple. There was an old monk in the temple who was good at curing diseases. He could cure rheumatism, throat congestion and other symptoms with ease. Before the old monk treated a patient, he would first burn incense and chant Buddhist scriptures, and then pour the incense ashes into water for the patient to drink. After the patient drank the incense ash water, his illness was cured. The old monk then said that it was the Buddha who cast a spell to save him. Therefore, he not only cheated patients of a lot of money, but also gained the trust of the patients who came to see him. In fact, what was in the old monk’s bowl was not ordinary water, but a herbal soup that could cure rheumatism and other diseases. The old monk asked the young monk to decoct the medicine every day. In addition to decocting the medicine, he also had to light a fire, cook vegetarian meals, and clean the courtyards. The old monk sometimes even beat and scolded him. The young monk felt very angry, so he thought of a way to deal with the old monk. When decocting the medicine, the medicinal herbs that can cure diseases were replaced with wild grasses. One day, a piece of bone was stuck in the throat of the hunter's son, so the hunter brought his son to Weiling Temple to ask the old monk for treatment. However, the medicine did not work at all and his throat was still blocked. When the old monk saw this, he was anxious and afraid of making a fool of himself, so he said to the hunter, "You have something unclean on you, which has offended the Buddha. The Buddha doesn't want to save your child anymore! Go away." The hunter walked out of the hall with his seriously ill son. At this time, the young monk caught up with him from behind, took out a bowl of medicine and said, "Buddha is not effective, drink my medicine." After the hunter's son drank the medicine, he saw the effect and his son's illness was cured. The hunter thanked him again and again. From then on, no one went to the old monk for treatment anymore, and people all went to the young monk for treatment. He also said that the water from the old monk in Weiling Temple can no longer cure diseases, but the medicine from the young monk can. One day, the woodcutter suffered from rheumatism and went to ask the young monk for medicine. When he arrived at the main hall, he happened to meet the old monk there. The old monk suddenly realized that the problem was with the young monk. He was so angry that his face turned blue and he gnashed his teeth. The woodcutter was watching nearby, so he did not want to get angry, and so he strode out of the hall, intending to settle the score with the monk. However, he was not careful, fell down the stairs, and died. From then on, the young monk became the abbot of Weiling Temple. He planted a lot of medicinal herbs, and whenever someone came to Weiling Temple to seek treatment, he would not charge a penny. Because the herb was produced in Weiling Temple and its curative effect was as miraculous as a magic medicine, people later called it "Wei Lingxian". |
