How to grow bitter melon on the balcony

Seed selection and germination

Generally speaking, when planting bitter melon on the balcony, it is best to choose varieties that are more heat-resistant and have a higher yield, such as jade bitter melon, emerald, etc. After choosing the variety, it is time to start germination. Soak the seeds in warm water, remove the gum on the surface of the seeds, wrap them with gauze, and put them in clean water for 12 hours. After taking them out, wrap them with gauze and film, soak them in water, and place them in an environment of 28 to 30 degrees for germination. They will sprout in about three or four days. However, you have to wait until the young shoots grow to 25px in height before you can start growing seedlings.

Seedling transplanting

It is recommended to use nutrient seedling cultivation when raising seedlings. Put the nutrient matrix in the nutrient cup and water it thoroughly. When the seedlings grow about 5 or 6 leaves, they can be planted in pots. It is best to choose clay when transplanting to ensure that water and fertilizer can be better retained. Choose a deeper flower pot, at least 30~1000px. Then put the melon seedlings with the soil in the pot.

Maintenance and harvesting

During the growth period of bitter gourd, timely fertilization is required. Fertilize once or twice during the seedling stage, and then every 3 to 7 days until the female flowers bloom and become widowed. In terms of water, just keep the soil surface moist. Also, when the vines grow, they need to be trellised. When it comes to harvesting the fruit, the fruit shoulders swell like warts, the fruit becomes large and shiny, and the fruit color becomes emerald green, then it is time to pick it.
