How to prune the roots of succulent plants

Tools and Materials

Scissors, brushes, disinfectants, carving knives, alcohol, etc.

Step 1

First of all, we need to have a general understanding of the health status of our succulents. It is recommended to carefully observe the growth status of the roots of the succulents before taking any action. The roots we usually prune are aging roots or roots with obvious necrotic spots.

Step 2

After observation, we should start to trim the roots. Before doing so, we can disinfect the knife and scissors with alcohol or diluted potassium permanganate solution to prevent bacterial infection.

Step 3

Usually, there are two types of roots that we need to prune: aging roots with blocked absorption, and roots with obvious necrotic points. When removing aging or lignified roots, be thorough and keep the fleshy roots that can be seen. In addition, it is also recommended to remove some messy roots because these roots are particularly easy to dry out and cannot achieve the transportation function. Note that the wound edges should be kept smooth.

Step 4

After pruning, be sure to place the succulents in a ventilated place and let the wounds dry slowly. After the wound has dried, you can pot it, but it should be noted that the soil in the pot should not be too wet. It is estimated that new roots will grow in a week.

Finally, just wait for your flesh to undergo a brand new transformation!
