When does peanut planting start?

Peanut is a thermophilic crop. The suitable temperature for sowing is around 12°C, while the suitable temperature for flowering is 23-28°C, and the minimum temperature is 19°C. So when should peanuts be planted? Let’s take a look with the editor below.

1. When should peanuts be planted?

Peanut planting times vary by region, climate, and variety. Generally speaking, peanut planting can be divided into two seasons: spring and summer.

1. Spring planting: Spring is the main season for peanut planting . In northern regions, peanut planting generally begins in late March to early April. At this time, the temperature gradually rises and the soil temperature also gradually rises, which is conducive to the growth and development of peanuts. In the southern regions, due to the warmer climate, spring planting time may be advanced.

2. Summer planting: Summer planting of peanuts is mainly suitable for some southern regions. When planting peanuts in summer, you need to pay attention to selecting varieties that are resistant to high temperatures and diseases and pests, and take appropriate irrigation and shading measures to ensure the normal growth of peanuts.

2. How to grow peanuts?

1. Site selection and land preparation

Choose loose, deep, sunny, neutral or slightly acidic soil to plant peanuts, and combine it with land preparation to apply enough fertilizer for the peanuts throughout their lifetime. Apply 2000-3000 kg of soil and miscellaneous fertilizers and 25 kg of phosphate fertilizer per mu.

2. Drying seeds

Drying peanut seeds in shells before sowing can enhance seed vitality and kill the pathogens carried by the seeds. Choose a sunny day and dry the seeds from 10 am to 4 pm every day for 1-3 days.

3. Seed mixing

Before sowing, mix the seeds with 0.3% of multi-bacteria to prevent and control root rot and base rot. Mixing the seeds with 150-200 grams of rhizobia per mu can accelerate the formation of nodules.

4. Seed soaking and germination

Soak the seeds in warm water at about 35 degrees for 2-4 hours. If germination is required, place the soaked seeds in a room at 25-30 degrees Celsius for germination.

5. Planting seeds

The depth of peanut sowing has a great influence on peanut germination and seedling vigor. If the sowing is too deep, the peanuts are likely to sprout or form tall seedlings. If the seeds are sown too shallowly and there is little rainfall, the growth of seedlings will be affected and old and weak seedlings will form. The sowing depth of peanuts is generally controlled at about 5 cm. After sowing, cover with 3 cm of fine soil. Do not cover with large pieces of soil, otherwise it is easy to sprout or even fail to sprout.

The above is an introduction to when to start planting peanuts. The climatic conditions in each place are different. Generally, spring and summer sowing are adopted, starting from late March. In places with low temperatures, planting starts from late April.
