Picking

The time for collecting cuttings depends on local climate and other factors. Generally, it is best to collect them before the buds on the branches of the red yew have fully swelled, that is, from late March to early April.

Cut strips

After harvesting, the strips need to be cut immediately. You need to keep 3 buds on each cutting. The upper end is cut flat 15-20 mm away from the upper bud, and the lower end is cut into a horse ear shape 3-5 mm away from the lower bud. The length of each cutting is approximately between 8-12 cm. It is best to choose a bottom diameter of about 5-10 mm for the cuttings, which can ensure a better rooting rate.

The cut strips are bundled into 50 pieces, with the bottoms unevenly bundled, and then placed in a flat-bottomed container with 5-6 cm deep clean water for hydrolysis, which takes 3 days and nights. If conditions permit, you can irrigate and drain the water at the same time. If conditions do not permit, you can change the water once every morning and evening. Then place the hydrolyzed cuttings in the container, and then pour in ABT1:500000 solution to a depth of about 3-5 cm. The soaking time depends on the water temperature. When the water temperature is below 8℃, it needs to be soaked for about 6-8 hours. When the water temperature is above 8℃, it needs to be soaked for 3-4 hours.

Rooting

Choose a flat area with shade, cover it with about 6-8 cm thick wet sand, and then invert the cuttings at a 75-degree angle. Cover with a layer of wet sand about 5-6 cm thick. And it needs to be watered 2-3 times a day, and note that water that has been exposed to the sun needs to be used. After about 20-30 days, it can be taken out for cuttings.
