How to propagate five-color plum by cuttings

How to propagate five-color plum by cuttings

Cutting propagation time

It can be carried out throughout the year, but it is best in spring and autumn. The survival rate of summer cuttings is relatively low.

Cutting propagation cutting selection

When cutting cuttings of Prunus armeniaca, the inflorescence should be cut off first, and healthy, full branches with short internodes should be selected. The rooting speed of terminal buds and softwood cuttings is much faster than that of semi-hardwood cuttings. If moisturizing protection is not done in time, the branches are prone to dehydration.

Standard cuttings include terminal bud cuttings and softwood cuttings. When choosing terminal bud cuttings, you should select branches with terminal buds, 3 nodes, and a length of 5-9 cm. The first pair of leaves growing below the branches can be cut off, or some leaves can be cut off to reduce water evaporation.

When choosing softwood cuttings, try to keep the leaves as much as possible and trim them appropriately, and you can use seedling pots to grow seedlings.

Cutting propagation method

Prepare the cutting container and soil, water the soil thoroughly and then place the treated cuttings into the soil, paying attention to keeping the soil moist.

It takes 14-21 days for the cuttings to take root. After the cuttings take root, they can be moved to a 7.5 cm diameter round pot for seedling cultivation. After the root ball grows out, they can be planted in a 12.5 cm or 20 cm diameter pot. When the plant grows up, after several pinching and pruning, it can become a spherical five-color plum, which improves its ornamental value.
