How to apply fertilizer to flowers

How to apply fertilizer to flowers

Conditions for topdressing

First, the temperature should be considered when applying topdressing. The suitable temperature for top dressing is between 15-30 degrees. Too high or too low temperature will increase the risk of top dressing and easily cause fertilizer damage.

Second, topdressing depends on the growth form of the plant. It is advisable to apply nitrogen fertilizer during the growth period of the plant, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be used mainly during the bud stage, fruiting stage and after flowering. Do not apply fertilizer too early to newly transplanted plants, otherwise it will affect the recovery of the seedlings.

Third, the timing of topdressing should be considered. Top dressing should not be done at noon in summer and autumn. It is best to apply foliar fertilizer in the afternoon when there is no direct sunlight or in the evening, otherwise the leaves may be easily burned.

Methods of topdressing

The first is the general method of topdressing. When applying topdressing to potted plants, directly dig out the topsoil at the edge of the pot, put in fertilizer, cover with soil and water.

Second, after the water-soluble fertilizer is mixed and dissolved with water, you can directly apply foliar fertilizer or water it.

Principles of topdressing

The principle of top dressing is "apply thin fertilizer frequently". If you don't know the appropriate dosage, try to lower the concentration. Top dressing should be done frequently, but it is best to leave an interval of one week or more.

Special case of topdressing

First, plants in their peak flowering period basically do not need top dressing, but perennial herbaceous flowers such as dwarf cattleya, geranium, carnation, sunflower, etc. can also be fertilized during their peak flowering period.

Second, ground-planted plants are not so strict about temperature, and the need for topdressing can be determined based on the growth of the plants.
