Classification of flowers

1. Classification by ecological habits

According to their ecological habits, flowers can be divided into annual and biennial flowers, such as sunflowers; bulbous flowers, such as hyacinths; perennial flowers, such as peonies; succulents, such as cacti; indoor foliage plants, such as arrowroots; orchids, such as phalaenopsis; aquatic flowers, such as lotuses; and woody flowers, such as jasmine.

2. Classification by plant morphology

According to plant morphology, flowers can be divided into herbaceous flowers, including perennial herbaceous flowers and annual and biennial herbaceous flowers, such as chrysanthemum; woody flowers, including trees, shrubs, and bamboos, such as osmanthus.

3. Classification by cultivation type

According to the cultivation type, flowers can be divided into field flowers, such as elmleaf plum; greenhouse potted foliage plants, such as rubber trees; greenhouse potted flowers, such as gloxinia; cut flowers, such as gladiolus; cut leaves, such as asparagus fern; and dried flowers, such as straw daisy.

4. Classification by purpose

According to their uses, flowers can be divided into cut flowers, such as carnations; potted flowers, such as geraniums; and ground plants, such as pansies.

5. According to other categories

In addition to the above classification methods, flowers can also be classified according to their water requirements, such as xerophytic, semi-xerophytic, mesophytic, hygrophytic, and aquatic; they can be classified according to temperature requirements, such as cold-resistant, cool-loving, moderate temperature, warm-loving, and heat-resistant; they can be classified according to light requirements, such as positive, neutral, negative, or short day, long day, and medium day; they can be classified according to the ornamental parts, such as flowers, fruits, leaves, stems, and fragrance.
