Plants that live entirely in the air? Just leave it there and don't worry about it

Plants living in the air

There is only one plant on earth that grows completely in the air, and that is the air plant.

But don’t get it wrong! Growing in the air does not mean floating in the air. Air plants also need to be fixed on stones or branches, and some will even grow a few roots to fix themselves. Growing in the air means that air plants can grow entirely by absorbing moisture and nutrients from the air. Isn’t that cool?

Air plants are a large family, which can be divided into two categories.

One type grows in humid rainforests or swamps, where the air is humid and there is no need to worry about water. Its leaves can grow wide and large, and some are even curled into waves, which is very gorgeous!

The other type grows in dry deserts. In order to retain precious water, their leaves are thin and densely clustered together. At first glance, they look like a clump of grass and are inconspicuous. The desert sun is always scorching. In order to avoid being dried out, the air plants here have a layer of white fluff on their leaves, which can both block the sun and condense water vapor in the air. It really kills two birds with one stone!

The wonders of plants did not come out of nothing, but were acquired slowly in the process of evolution.

Air plants are members of the pineapple family. During the long journey of evolution, pineapples have chosen an epiphytic lifestyle: climbing on large trees, closer to the sun and away from herbivores on the ground; some grow on stones, and even, bizarrely, grow on telephone poles! But this also means they are far away from fertile land. What should I do? So, the pineapples began to cherish every drop of rain and dew. By turning the leaves into small ponds, it becomes a water-retaining pineapple. It also learns to absorb water and nutrients from the air, gradually getting rid of its dependence on the soil. The air plant is the most outstanding one in the family. It has evolved to rely entirely on air. Isn’t that amazing!

After seeing this, do you want to raise some? Please share this with your friends and grow some air plants at home to beautify your home with this unique plant.
