How to grow climbing roses

How to grow climbing roses

1. Breeding methods

soil

Climbing roses like fertile soil and require moist soil. Generally, when choosing soil, peat soil is chosen, plus a little leaf mold and perlite, which can improve the air permeability of the soil. If you are a novice in growing climbing roses, it is best not to add base fertilizer first. If you need to add it, it is better to use slow-release fertilizer. After applying the base fertilizer, put a layer of soil on the fertilizer to prevent the roots from directly contacting the fertilizer.

Watering

It likes a humid environment, which can be slightly dry, but there should be no stagnant water. When watering, it is best to water according to the dryness of the potting soil. You can insert chopsticks into the soil to see if the soil is dry before watering. Water thoroughly, but be careful not to wash it away.

Fertilization

Fertilization should be moderate. During the growing season of climbing roses, you can apply fertilizer when watering. Whether to use compound fertilizer or organic fertilizer depends on the needs of the plant.

Note that in spring, summer and autumn, liquid fertilizer should be applied once after pruning. After winter dormancy, the roots can be hollowed out and decomposed organic fertilizer can be applied.

Breeding precautions

prune

Because of the growth rate of climbing roses and the need for ornamental purposes, most of the time they are pruned. Pruning is of great significance to the control of plant shape and flowering. Pruning is needed after flowering in spring, and also once in late summer and early autumn. These are mainly pruning after flowering, in order to ensure better flowering in the next season.

Winter pruning mainly involves light pruning, just cutting off the new buds on the plant.

Seedling

When growing climbing roses, it is very important to slow down the growth of the seedlings. You can do this by placing the stems in a cool, diffuse light location.
