How to propagate oleander

How to propagate oleander

Growth habits of oleander

Oleander likes to grow in a warm and humid environment. It is not very cold-resistant and water-resistant, so it should be planted in a dry and well-drained place. It likes sunlight and fertilizer, and can also adapt to a shadier environment. It has a strong ability to sprout and the tree can recover easily after being damaged.

How to propagate oleander

Seed propagation

After the oleander fruits are ripe, they can be picked and sown at any time. After sowing, it will take three months for the seedlings to emerge in the greenhouse.

Layering propagation

During the rainy season, cut the branches close to the ground and press them into the soil. After about two months when they have taken root, they can be separated from the mother plant.

Water plug

Water insertion can be carried out during the growing season of oleander. Cut branches of about 30 to 40 centimeters in length, split the lower end about four to six centimeters with a knife, and insert them into a container of water, waiting for them to take root.

Cutting propagation

Choose healthy branches and cut them with scissors, cutting the upper end into a horizontal plane and the lower end into an inclined plane, and remove the lower branches and leaves. The soil should be disinfected before cuttings, and the treated cuttings should be planted at a spacing of 5×5 cm so that the cutting interface is in close contact with the soil matrix. Be careful not to scratch the cortex of the cut below the cutting. Generally, the cuttings will take root about 15-20 days after cutting. After cuttings, be sure to water them in time and provide shade when the temperature is too high.

Oleander is known as the "green vacuum cleaner". It has a strong dust adsorption ability and can purify the air, so flower lovers can plant more oleander at home!
