How to grow Colchicum

How to grow native colchicum

When cultivating colchicum, it is best to choose sandy soil with good drainage and fertility.

In summer, you should reduce the amount of watering for Colchicum because Colchicum prefers hot and dry environment in summer.

There are likely to be continuous autumn rains in autumn. At this time, the anthers of colchicum are easily infected by pathogens, and the bulbs are also prone to rot. At this time, it is best to put the colchicum indoors and control the amount of watering to prevent water accumulation.

In winter, colchicum likes a humid environment, so you can water it more at this time. Colchicum is relatively cold-resistant, so no special cold-proof measures are required.

Cultivation method of aquatic colchicum

When planting aquatic colchicum, first peel off the brown scales of the prepared colchicum bulbs until the ivory white part is exposed. Then make a cross on the upper part of the bulb, making the cut gently so as not to damage the flower buds. Then soak the incision down overnight.

Next, plant the bulbs in a basin of water, and the water should generally cover the bulbs. Generally, the water needs to be changed every 1-2 days, and the temperature of the growing environment of Colchicum is best kept at 10-18 degrees. At this time, good ventilation and sufficient sunlight are also required. When planting indoors, please note that colchicum cannot be exposed to light at night during the growing period. It usually takes 40-60 days to bloom.
