How to grow Ebisu

How to grow Ebisu

Growth habit

Ebisu prefers a warm, dry, sunny environment and is afraid of waterlogging. Its growing period is generally from May to October.

Maintenance requirements

Medium and Pots

The roots of Ebisu Smile grow very fast. It can be made by mixing 3-6mm granular soil and peat in a ratio of 7:3. In its native place, Ebisu usually grows close to the ground, so we can also plant it close to the ground. The pot can be selected with a diameter-to-height ratio of 2:1.

soil

Remember to choose potting soil with good air permeability and drainage, and coarser particles. It would be best if it contains an appropriate amount of calcium. For example, 20% leaf mold or peat soil mixed with 30% orchid stone and coarse sand, and then added with an appropriate amount of shell powder, will make it breathable, drainable and nutritious.

illumination

Like most succulents, sunlight is also a nutrient for Ebisu Smile. It is best to place it in a sunroom with full sunlight during the growing season. Be sure not to expose the plant to direct sunlight in summer, and remember to provide appropriate shade.

temperature

Ebisu can withstand temperatures as low as 4 degrees Celsius, but even so, it should not be kept in too low temperatures in winter, and the minimum temperature should be above 10 degrees Celsius. Excessively high temperatures in summer may cause it to enter a semi-dormant state, so good ventilation is needed.

Watering

During the growing period, water it basically every two days. Don't be afraid of the soil being moist, but be afraid of waterlogging. The temperature difference is very large in autumn. When the leaves turn yellow or red, it may be time for it to hibernate. It is best to stop watering in time or choose to give a small amount of water. In winter, you may need to stop watering completely and keep the soil dry. In general, don’t water unless the soil is dry, and water thoroughly when you do.

Fertilization

In fact, the growth rate of Ebisu itself is not very fast, which shows that it does not need too much nutrients. Low-nitrogen, high-phosphorus, potassium, and compound fertilizers can be applied once a month. It is best to stop fertilizing in summer, but remember to maintain a well-ventilated environment and avoid heat and humidity. In winter, you can apply some thin fertilizer as appropriate.

Reproduction method

The main methods of propagation of Ebisu are sowing and grafting.

sowing

After the fruits are produced and the seeds are ripe, you can collect them yourself. The suitable temperature for germination is 22℃--24℃, and it will germinate in about 10--15 days.

grafting

Using the flat grafting method, cut the fleshy stems of Ebisu Smile, stick them close to the rootstock, tie them tightly, and loosen them after the wound heals. The best time for grafting is May to June.

This is all I have to say about the breeding methods of Ebisu Smile. I hope it will be useful to you.
