How many acres of land can be planted with 4400 corn seeds (how many corn plants can be planted in one acre of land)

Now is the planting season of summer corn here, the peak season for corn seed sales, and various corn seeds are displayed in prominent positions in various branch stores.

In the past, we bought corn seeds by the kilogram, and a bag of 4-5 kilograms was just enough to sow 1 mu of land. But now it is sold by the grain, and a bag of corn seeds has 3,800, 4,000, 4,400, 4,500, and even 5,000 grains. As the saying goes, "If you have money, you can buy seeds, but if you don't have money, you can buy seedlings." Corn must be sown in sufficient quantities.

First, full, uniform and strong seedlings are important prerequisites for high corn yields

First of all, we need to choose high-quality seeds. The germination rate and germination potential of corn seeds play an important role in ensuring that all corn seedlings are intact and strong.

According to regulations of relevant departments, the germination rate of corn seeds should not be lower than 85%, and the germination rate of most high-quality seeds can be higher than 95%. Especially in the current case of single-grain precision sowing, almost one seedling can be produced per grain.

The second thing is to have suitable soil moisture, which is the basis for getting all seedlings in one sowing.

The third is to improve the quality of sowing, such as sowing at a depth of 5-7 cm and compacting the seeds.

Fourth, the seeds need to be coated.

2. How to determine the sowing amount

Different corn varieties require different numbers of plants per mu. The sowing rate per mu depends on the variety you choose.

If the corn variety you choose is Xianya 619, its packaging states that the best number of plants per mu is 2800-3000 plants. We then leave 10% for loss and should sow 3080-3300 seeds per mu. Then 4400 seeds should be sown in 1.3-1.4 mu of land .

For example, for Jinyu 118 corn seeds, 3000-3500 seedlings are required per mu. So the sowing amount per mu should be increased by 10% to allow for loss. We should sow 3300-3850 grains per mu. Then 4400 corn seeds should be sown in 1.1-1.3 mu of land .

Even with such precise sowing, it is difficult to guarantee that there will be no shortage of seedlings or dense seedlings, which may be due to the seeds, soil moisture, sowing quality, etc. More seedlings should be left next to the missing seedlings, and double seedlings can be left at the beginning and end of the row.

Most of the current corn varieties are densely planted tolerant varieties, which are not the same as compact varieties. Some compact varieties are not tolerant to dense planting.

High density-tolerant varieties can generally tolerate a density of more than 5,000 plants per acre, so 4,400 grains of corn can only be planted in 0.8 acres of land .

3. There are many problems with summer corn planting density

The first is poor sowing quality.

Direct-seeding corn on wheat stubble is affected by wheat straw and stubble, and machine-seeded summer corn is affected by the performance of the seeder and the quality of the sowing operation, both of which are prone to missing seedlings and broken ridges.

The second is not sowing at the required density.

Whether it is the machine operator or the owner, they basically do not sow according to the instructions of the selected variety, and almost the entire village sows at the same density.

This results in some densely tolerant varieties being sown sparsely, and some densely intolerant varieties being sown too densely. The importance of reasonable dense planting to yield is not fully recognized, and seedlings are not retained according to the characteristics of the varieties.

Another problem is that the seedlings are not set after sowing, resulting in uneven density distribution in the field. Some places are too dense and crowded, and the quality of the seedlings is poor.

In general, the sowing amount of a corn variety depends on the characteristics of the variety and whether it is tolerant to high density. This can be done by adjusting the row and plant spacing according to the instructions on the package. Adjusting the row and plant spacing can be done by a machine operator .

Tall stalks should be sparse, long growth should be sparse, flat type should be sparse, big stick type should be sparse, and vice versa. Second, it depends on the plot. Dry land should be sparsely planted with tall stalks and big ears, and irrigated land should be dense; fertile land should be densely planted, and thin land should be sparsely planted.

Summarize

Reasonable corn planting density should be determined according to variety characteristics, climatic conditions, soil fertility, production conditions and other conditions.

But in reality, not many people can do it. When you go around the whole village and find the same density, no matter what variety it is or whether the yield is high or not, most people think it is because of the good or bad fertilizer. Few people will say it is because the seeds are sown too sparsely or too densely.
