How to grow Lobelia

soil

Lobelia likes moist soil, so when choosing the medium, sandy soil is the main choice.

Light and temperature

Lobelia prefers a warm and semi-shady growing environment. The suitable temperature for its growth is between 25℃ and 30℃. It is slightly not cold-resistant and requires a higher temperature for wintering, preferably above 15℃. If it is lower than this value, the growth of the Lobelia plant may stagnate. When the temperature in summer is higher than 30℃, it needs to be watered to avoid its death. There must be sufficient light, and extending the light time can make it bloom faster. When the sun is strong in summer, you need to pay attention and provide shade in time.

Watering and fertilizing

Lobelia likes a humid growing environment. The soil needs to be kept moist during the growth period. It needs to be watered in the dry season to ensure sufficient water. Try to water it in the morning or early morning. There is no need to apply fertilizer too frequently. Just apply some base fertilizer to provide nutrients when planting and apply appropriate top dressing. In summer, apply urea or human and animal manure, and in winter, apply decomposed local fertilizer.

Things to note when growing Lobelia

Reproduction method

There are several ways to propagate Lobelia: sowing, cuttings and division. Division is mainly carried out in spring and is the most commonly used method in production. Cuttings are taken in the hot season.

Pests and diseases

Diseases and pests of Lobelia are not common, but there are threats of diseases such as plant lodging and spots on the leaves, which require timely prevention and control.

Flowering precautions

First, Lobelia is easy to bloom when the temperature difference between day and night is large and the light is strong, so the lighting time needs to be appropriately extended; second, when too much nitrogen fertilizer is applied, excess nutrition will reduce flowering; finally, do not fertilize or spray pesticides during the flowering period of Lobelia.
