Cultivation methods and precautions of Yangxincai

How to grow Yangxin vegetable

Yangxincai has strong adaptability and is extremely resistant to high temperatures and severe cold. It can safely overwinter at temperatures of -30℃ and can grow at 5℃. It is not picky about soil and can be planted all over the country. It is easy to survive and manage.

Yangxincai is a health-care vegetable that can calm the mind and nourish the liver, nourish yin and promote blood circulation, and has certain therapeutic effects on palpitations, hypertension and other symptoms. So he also has another name, which is Heart-saving Grass.

Yangxincai has low soil requirements and can be planted in any soil that can grow ordinary crops, especially in neutral sandy soil with good drainage. However, Yangxincai has very high requirements for soil moisture. If the moisture in the soil can be maintained at 70 to 80 percent, it is most suitable for the growth of Yangxincai. Therefore, if you use a flower pot to plant it, it is best not to expose it to direct sunlight to prevent water loss too quickly. Yangxin vegetable is usually planted by transplanting seedlings. Leave eight centimeters long seedlings, five centimeters in the soil and three centimeters above the ground. Before transplanting, the Yangxin vegetable should be cut into pieces to facilitate absorption of moisture and fertilizer in the soil. The temperature should be kept between 25 and 28 degrees, and around 12 degrees at night.

Things to note when growing Yangxincai

Yangxincai has strong adaptability, is resistant to diseases and pests, and is easy to grow, propagate and manage. Yangxincai can be propagated by two methods: seeds or cuttings, but cuttings are generally used for propagation. Loose, fertile and somewhat moist sandy loam is most conducive to growth, and organic fertilizer should be applied as base fertilizer.

Generally, seeds are used for sowing in Beijing, with open field sowing in mid-May and solar greenhouse sowing possible all year round. If cuttings are taken in the open field in mid-April, the survival rate can reach 95%. The rows should be spaced 30 cm apart, the plants 12 to 15 cm apart, and the seeds should be planted in a star-shaped pattern on the flat bed.

The cultivation and management of Yangxincai is simple. When the base fertilizer is sufficient, no top dressing is needed. When no base fertilizer is applied, 5 kg of urea (or ammonium sulfate) should be applied every 2 harvests. Watering should be determined according to the soil moisture conditions to avoid excessive moisture or dryness. During the growth process of Yangxincai, there is basically no disease or insect infection, so no pesticides are needed. It is a natural, pollution-free green food.

The harvesting period of Yangxincai cultivated in the open field is from May to October. During the vigorous growth period from June to September, 2 to 3 batches of tender buds and leaves can be picked every month. The solar greenhouse allows for year-round growth and harvesting. The edible parts of Yangxincai are its tender stems and leaves. It has a short harvesting cycle, high yield, and high income from its cultivation.

Heart nourishing tea

The leaves and tender stems of Yangxincai are rubbed and dried to make tea. The brewed tea has excellent color, fragrance and taste. Drinking it can highly suppress insomnia, palpitations and depression. Adding sugar will make it taste better. In addition to lowering blood pressure, it can also relieve drunken headaches. Especially for the elderly, drinking nourishing vegetables instead of tea is beneficial to health and longevity.
