Why do pigs not eat? How to treat it?

Pigs not eating is a thorny problem that may be encountered in pig farms. If this situation persists, it will cause the pigs to lose weight, reduce immunity, and even extend the time to market, which will have a negative impact on the economic benefits of the pig farm. So why don’t pigs eat? How to treat it?

1. Febrile diseases

Symptoms: fever, cough, difficulty breathing, skin rash.

Countermeasures: Observe symptoms and provide symptomatic treatment after diagnosis. If you have a fever and refuse to eat, you can consider injecting treatment with Shuanghuanglian , Cephalexin, Bupleurum and VB1.

2. Stress response

Causes: high temperature, feed change, poorly ventilated environment, and long-distance transportation.

Countermeasures: Keep the pig house clean, dry and ventilated, ensure adequate exercise, and add multivitamins and astragalus polysaccharides to relieve stress if necessary.

3. Gastrointestinal diseases

Symptoms: weak stomach and intestines, gastritis, enteritis, diarrhea.

Countermeasures: Regulate the stomach and intestines, reduce inflammation, adjust the balance of intestinal flora, prevent diarrhea, relieve constipation, and improve the feed-to-meat ratio.

4. Not drinking enough water

Symptoms: Thirst leading to decreased appetite.

Countermeasures: Ensure that there is sufficient clean water in the pig house and check the water output of the waterer. The water output of the sow waterer should reach 2.5 liters/minute.

5. Sows in estrus

Symptoms: Decreased appetite during estrus.

Countermeasures: Provide fresh food such as vegetables, or conduct timely mating to alleviate the loss of appetite.

In general, when pigs suddenly stop eating, the first thing to check is whether it is stress caused by feed changes or environmental changes. Check the pigs' body temperature. If they have a fever, find out the cause and treat it accordingly. If pigs have a long-term loss of appetite, it may be due to poor gastrointestinal function. Chinese herbal fermented probiotics can be used to regulate the intestines and fundamentally solve intestinal problems.
