The past and present of Tumi, and the secrets of its variants

The past and present of Tumi, and the secrets of its variants

Tumi's Past Life

Previous life in history

The earliest record of Tumi was in the Tang Dynasty. Various classics recorded it as "酴醾", but it was relatively rare. It suddenly increased in the Southern Song Dynasty, and there were more than 100 ancient poems. But unfortunately, the flowers of the Tumi only bloomed for one season, and there were very few records of it in the Ming Dynasty. What's more, there are many inconsistencies in various books on flowers and trees, and the identity of the Tumi has basically become an unsolved case.

Previous life on the Internet

Even now, if you search for "荼蘼" on the Internet, you will see all kinds of strange pictures. It is not surprising that this plant, whose identity is originally unclear but full of literary and artistic atmosphere, has been constantly changing its identity through the songs of generations.

The present life of Tumi

In fact, Tumi is no longer the real name of a plant. It has three real names as aliases:

Rubus rose, double-petaled hollow rose, and tea rose.

All three are plants of the Rosaceae family, blooming at the junction of spring and summer.

Rubus rosa

It is the flower that is most similar to the historical camellia. Because of its pure white color, it is often confused with wild rose. In fact, the two are completely different plants. Generally, Rubus rubus has a slightly stronger aroma and the flowers and fruits are slightly larger. From a miniature perspective, the style of the Rubus rosea is covered with soft hairs.

Double hollow bubble

This plant looks unfamiliar, but you must have seen it. It is a kind of rose mold, white in color, with many petals. In Japan, this flower is also called turban rose.

Tea Rose

The reason why this flower is listed here is because ancient books record that the tea rose has two colors, yellow and white. Based on this statement, we speculate that another identity of the tea rose may be the perfume rose.
