Cultivation methods and precautions of Jianlan

Cultivation methods and precautions of Jianlan

Pot soil requirements

Growing orchids requires simplicity and elegance. The color of the flowerpot should not be too fancy, but should be a bit rustic. It is better to choose a fired purple clay pot. When planting Jianlan, put some pebbles or broken tiles at the bottom of the flowerpot, filling at least one-third of the pot. The best choices for soil for growing Jianlan are: burnt soil, peanut shells, and pond mud. After drying them, pound them into granules.

Lighting requirements

Jianlan likes plenty of diffuse light but not direct light. It needs shading of about 70% to 80% in summer and autumn, and 30% in winter and spring. When growing it at home, you can use the doors and windows of your home to provide shade.

In winter and spring, when the temperature is below 10℃, the plant can be exposed to sunlight all day without shading to promote the germination of Jianlan and enhance its disease resistance.

Watering method

When watering Jianlan, you must follow the principle of watering when the soil is dry and water thoroughly.

Before watering, observe whether the orchid pot needs water. Touch the orchid soil with your hand. If it is not sticky, or the surface of the soil appears white, water it in time.

When watering, make sure that the soil in the entire pot is evenly wetted and that the rotten roots are evenly distributed. You can also use the immersion method, immerse the entire pot of Jianlan in water, and let the water seep into the pot from the bottom of the pot.

Temperature requirements

The most suitable temperature for Jianlan's growth is 15~23℃. When planting indoors, pay attention to controlling the temperature. It should not be stuffy or cold. The temperature of Jianlan's winter dormancy period should be controlled at 0~12℃, so that the flowers will bloom more beautifully next year.

When the temperature is high in summer, it is necessary to cool down appropriately and ventilate in time. When the temperature is above 35°C, reduce watering and keep the potting soil relatively dry. After the temperature rises, normal maintenance should be carried out.

Fertilization method

Agricultural compound fertilizer is usually chosen for fertilizing Jianlan, 3 to 5 grains per pot. Note that it is calculated by grain and not too much fertilizer should be applied to avoid root rot. Do not place fertilizer too close to rotten roots. After applying the fertilizer, cover it with orchid soil and water it the next day.

When spraying water, you can add a small amount of potassium dihydrogen phosphate. There are rhizobia in the roots of Jianlan, which can basically meet the nitrogen demand and reduce the nitrogen content during fertilization.
