Cultivation methods and precautions of Cymbidium orchid

Cultivation methods and precautions of Cymbidium orchid

1. Soil

Cymbidium orchids like to grow in loose, breathable and well-drained soil. It is recommended to use leaf mold. In addition, homemade culture soil mixed with moss, fern roots, charcoal, bark blocks, broken bricks, etc. is also a very good choice.

Try not to use ordinary culture soil or culture soil for growing Cymbidium orchids. If the soil has poor drainage and ventilation, it will easily cause root rot of Cymbidium orchids.

2. Watering

During the growing period of Cymbidium, sufficient water should be given. Watering should be increased in the hot summer, while watering should be reduced in the cold winter, and attention should be paid to the temperature of the water (try to keep it consistent with room temperature) to avoid frostbite on the roots of the plant.

The best pH value for watering cymbidiums is 6.5.

3. Sunlight

When the light is strong in the summer, shading is needed (Cymbidium does not like direct sunlight and should use scattered light). About 50% shading is best. In autumn, in order to allow the plant to better form flower buds and overwinter healthily, it can be exposed to more sunlight. In winter, it needs to be placed in a greenhouse with strong sunlight and high temperature.

4. Fertilizer

It is best to use fertilizer with a nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ratio of 1:1:1 during the growing period. The application amount of phosphorus and potassium can be increased during the flowering period. Before use, you need to dilute the fertilizer solution and adjust its pH to between 5.8-6.2. Apply it 1 to 2 times a day in summer (alternate water and fertilizer), and once every 3 days in other seasons. Stop fertilizing in winter.
