Cultivation Techniques of Narcissus in Open Field

Daffodils love sunlight and grow in places with plenty of water. Therefore, daffodils can be cultivated in both dry land and paddy fields. So how should daffodils be cultivated correctly?

dry land

Every year the large bulbs are picked out and the small bulbs are planted. There is a saying in the countryside that if you plant early, the crops will grow well. It can also be planted in September-October every year. Use the spot sowing method to plant in wide rows, repeatedly and continuously, and often intercrop with crops.

Paddy Field

The requirements for paddy fields are relatively strict, and they must be free from various factors such as pests and diseases. They can be divided into three levels for cultivation.

Annual cultivation

Select the side branches that are more than two years old after cultivation. Use cultivation methods such as broadcasting or spot sowing. The number of daffodils per acre should not exceed 23,000.

Biennial cultivation

About 8000-10000 per acre. After more than a year of cultivation, bulbs with a diameter of more than 4cm are selected as seed bulbs.

Three-year cultivation

For viewing and sale, select bulbs that are more than two years old and have a diameter of 5 cm as seed bulbs. The number of plants per acre should not exceed about 5,000.

Flooding of cultivated land

The land is plowed and loosened in August and September, then flooded and drained after about 1-2 weeks. Subsequently, multiple tillage operations are carried out to improve fertility, reduce unnecessary pests and diseases, and increase soil permeability.

Fertilizing and ridge making

A large amount of chemical organic fertilizer is used as base fertilizer, with a requirement of 5000-1000 kg per mu. It takes 3 years to cultivate, and the bed surface should be regular and smooth, with unobstructed water flow.

Bulb castration

In order to achieve more flowering, the bulbs need to be castrated. The principle is the same as that of plant bud stripping.

Disinfection

To disinfect the ball, use 100 times diluted 40% formalin and soak the ball for about 5-10 minutes.
