How to make bamboo bonsai

Bonsai material

A simple method is to buy a pot of simple-shaped bamboo palm, one with a simple appearance and strong growth. Or you can dig one up somewhere outdoors, trim the roots, and plant it in a pot.

For the plants you just bought (dug up), first find an ordinary flowerpot, fill it with culture soil and maintain it for a period of time. Once the root system has grown strong and new stems have grown, it can be potted and shaped.

The process of potting bonsai

Select pot

It is best to choose a glazed ceramic pot or a purple clay pot for the bamboo palm. Choose a suitable pot according to the size of the plant. The shape of flower pots is mostly rectangular or oval. For smaller plants, you can choose shallower pots and add rocks and some small objects.

Basin

In March and April, fill the selected flower pots with sterilized acidic soil and put a layer of vermiculite or sand at the bottom of the pot to facilitate water permeability. Spread out the roots of the bamboo palm in the pot, then cover with soil and compact it.

Bonsai shape

prune

The production of bamboo palm bonsai is very simple and does not require additional bundling and pruning. Just cut off the dense branches and yellow leaves in time to keep the plant shape intact.

modeling

One is the jungle-style bonsai, where multiple bamboo palms are planted in one pot to form a group. Make them complement each other and reproduce the beautiful scenery of the forest. Because bamboo palms have thin stems and no branches, the number of plants required is greater than that of other tree species in a jungle, but an odd number is preferred.

The second modeling method is the tree and stone method. Putting bamboo palm and ornamental rocks in the same pot allows you to enjoy the scenery of the trees and the charm of the rocks. The two complement each other, depend on each other and form a whole. You can choose an oval shallow pot, plant bamboo at one end and place ornamental stones at the other end, with a clear distinction between the primary and secondary.
