How to propagate trumpet creeper by cuttings, cutting methods and time

1. Cutting time

Both old and new branches of Trumpet Creeper can be used for cuttings, but there is a difference in the time. If you use old branches for cuttings, it is recommended to do it around March every year. If you use new branches for cuttings, you should choose between July and August. It is recommended to do it in spring in the south, while it is best to do it in autumn in the north.

2. Processing of cuttings

Both old and new branches can be used for cuttings. The length of the cuttings should be controlled between 10-15 cm, not too long. It is also necessary to do proper pruning, cut off all the leaves below, and only keep two or three leaves at the top to reduce water loss.

3. Prepare the soil

When taking cuttings, you can choose pure river sand as the substrate. After preparation, disinfect it before use. If there is no river sand, industrial sand mixed with coarse and fine sand can be used. Using river sand as a substrate is more conducive to the rooting of cuttings and will not cause root rot due to water accumulation.

4. Inserting the seeds into the soil

After processing the cuttings and preparing the river sand, you can insert them into the soil. Pay attention to the depth when inserting cuttings. Just insert one-third of the cuttings, not too deep. After planting, press the surrounding soil tightly and water it thoroughly in time.

5. Post-maintenance

After completing the cuttings, keep them in a well-ventilated place. Pay attention to temperature control and moisture retention in the later stage. The most suitable temperature is around 20 degrees. Water and spray frequently to keep the substrate moist. It will take about a month for the plant to take root.
