Chrysanthemum varieties, types of chrysanthemum

1. Flat petal type

Flat-petal chrysanthemums are divided into six varieties, namely wide band type, lotus type, peony type, flat disc type, curled type and stacked ball type. Among them, the wide-band type of ligulate flowers has 1-2 whorls, and the petals are relatively wide. The lotus-shaped ligulate flowers have 3-6 whorls, and the petals are arranged very loosely. The peony-type ligulate flowers are in multiple whorls, with petals extending straight. The petals are narrow and straight, with the outer petals longer and the inner petals shorter. The outer petals of the curled type are curled back and forth. The petals of the stacked ball type overlap to form a spherical shape.

2. Spoon-shaped petals

There are also six varieties of spoon-petal chrysanthemums, namely spoon-shaped, sparrow-tongue-shaped, honeycomb-shaped, rosette-shaped, curled-shaped, and spoon-ball-shaped. The spoon-shaped type has 1-3 layers of ligulate flowers, and the petals are short spoon-shaped. The sparrow tongue type has multiple wheels, the outer wheel is narrow and spoon-shaped, and it stretches straight, and the shape of the spoon blade is similar to a sparrow tongue. The honeycomb-shaped flowers are spherical, and the spoon-shaped petals are curled, resembling a honeycomb. The rosette-shaped petals are arranged in an overall shape and embrace each other to form a rosette. The outer petals of the curly type are scattered and drooping, while the inner petals are embraced. The petals are spherical.

3. Tube valve type

There are more chrysanthemums with tubular petals. There are few ligulate flower whorls, most of which are single-tube type with thick tubes. There are also quill types with multiple whorls of ligulate flowers and medium or thick tubes. It has a tube-shaped disc type with the outer petals extending straight and the inner petals embracing each other. There are also pine needle types with thin, long, straight petals. It has a medium-thick tube, and the inner and outer petals are of equal length. There are also tube ball types with slightly shorter tube plates and drooping petals. A silky hairstyle with long, thin, smooth, and drooping petals. There are also flying types with petals that are unsteadily curled and uneven. Some have hook-shaped petals that are curved like hooks or rings, some have necklace-shaped petals that hang down in all directions, and some have beads strung together at the ends of the petals.

4. Osmanthus petals

There are four types of chrysanthemums with laurel petals, namely flat laurel type, spoon laurel type, tube laurel type and full laurel type. The ligulate flowers of the flat laurel type are flat petals, the ligulate flowers of the spoon-shaped laurel type are spoon-shaped petals, and the ligulate flowers of the tubular laurel type are tubular petals. All three types of tubular flowers are laurel-petal-shaped, while the full laurel type basically only has laurel-petal-shaped tubular flowers.

5. Abnormal valve

There are three types of abnormal valves. It is divided into dragon claw type, burr type and sheared type. Among them, the claw-shaped ligulate flowers have claw-shaped cracks at the top, the thorny ligulate flowers have short hairs on the petals, the velvet-shaped petals are like cut velvet, and some will turn into pompoms.
