1. Different types

The herbaceous name of orchid is Commelina, which belongs to the genus Commelina of the Commelinaceae family. Orchids belong to the genus Orchidaceae. So from the perspective of plant taxonomy, the two are completely not the same type of plants.

2. Different appearance

The flowers of the orchid grass are blue. 3-4 flowers gather on one branch, distributed in an umbrella shape, and each flower has 2 petals. Its leaves are lanceolate, and the bracts are heart-shaped when unfolded. Although orchids come in many colors, blue is not one of them. There are 6 petals, including a unique lip, and the stamens and pistils are fused into a column. Its leaves are long and strap-shaped.

3. Different distribution

Orchid grass mainly grows in tropical regions and is distributed in provinces and cities south of the Yangtze River in my country, especially in the southwest region. Orchids are widely distributed in my country and can be found in every province and city. The places with the most species are Yunnan, Sichuan and Taiwan Province.

4. Different maintenance methods

Orchids prefer a warm and humid environment, so water them sufficiently to keep the substrate moist. Fertilize 1-2 times a month, and liquid fertilizer mainly containing nitrogen should be used. Orchids do not require much water. Normally, they should be kept 80% dry and 20% wet, and less watering is needed especially during the flowering period. Fertilization must be strictly controlled, the fertilizer should be light, and not too frequent.
