1. Seed Collection TimeFreesia blooms in April and May and then bears fruit. The capsule matures quickly, usually in May or June, and can be picked and the seeds taken out. It should be noted that although the fruiting period is very long, the capsule will crack when it grows to a certain size, causing the seeds to be lost. Be sure to collect the seeds before they crack. 2. Pot soil preparationFreesia grows best in loose and fertile soil. The potting soil should be sandy, which can also provide good drainage. It can be prepared with humus soil, garden soil and sandy soil, with the ratio of the three being 5:3:2. A little animal manure can be added to the potting soil to provide certain nutrients for the seedlings. 3. SowingAfter preparing the potting soil, you can start sowing. Freesia seeds do not remain dormant, so they can be sown at any time without germination. Sprinkle the seeds on the surface of the potting soil, then cover with a layer of fine soil, and then water thoroughly to keep the substrate moist. After sowing, place it in a cool place and control the temperature between 15-20℃. It will germinate in about three weeks. 4. Seedling CareAfter the seedlings grow out, they will go through a summer, during which time their upper parts will turn yellow and dry, but this is a normal phenomenon as they enter a dormant period. It is not advisable to water during the dormant period, but you can apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to provide nutrients. In the fall, it will start growing again. Generally, small balls will grow in about a year. |
