Is the swallowtail palm poisonous?

Is the swallowtail palm poisonous?

1. Is it poisonous?

It itself is not poisonous, but the juice is poisonous.

It originally grew in Africa and likes sunny and warm places. After a period of cultivation, it is now widely used as a home potted plant, but some people say it is poisonous. That's because its juice contains a lot of toxins. When human skin accidentally touches it, it will become itchy and painful. What's more serious is that if the juice accidentally enters the eyes, it can cause blindness. So be careful when raising it and make sure it does not come into contact with the juice, especially if there are children at home.

2. How to raise it

1. Soil: Although its juice is poisonous, as long as you don't touch it, you can keep it as a good potted plant at home. When raising it, first choose a suitable potting soil, which can be made by mixing leaf mold, garden soil and river sand. At the same time, add a little base fertilizer to the bottom of the pot, and then pad it with some small gravel or tiles to make the soil loose and breathable, which is more conducive to its growth.

2. Fertilization: In spring and autumn every year, you can give it appropriate topdressing once a month, but generally not much fertilizer is applied in summer because it is in a dormant period and requires very little fertilizer. In addition, when the temperature is very low in winter, fertilization should also be stopped. When applying fertilizer, the fertilizer usually chosen is compound fertilizer or decomposed organic fertilizer, which will provide it with sufficient nutrients.
