How to grow asparagus fern in autumn

How to grow asparagus fern in autumn

1. Replace the flower soil

If you haven't changed the soil for asparagus fern for a long time, you can change the soil for it after the autumn. The new flower soil is required to have a relatively high nutrient content and excellent drainage and air permeability. It can be made with humus soil, sandy soil and a small amount of base fertilizer.

The method of repotting is very simple. First, take the plant out of the old pot, cut off the blackened and rotten roots, and treat the bottom with disinfectant. Then prepare a new flowerpot, lay a layer of small stones on the bottom, put the flower soil in it, put the plant in it, and compact the soil surface. Then place it in a semi-shaded place, water it on time, and keep the soil slightly moist. After it has adapted to the new soil, you can then carry out normal maintenance.

2. Water appropriately

In summer, you need to water it more frequently, usually once every 3-4 days to provide it with enough water. However, after autumn, its demand for water decreases, so the frequency of watering it also needs to be reduced, otherwise it will easily cause root rot. Specifically, you can water it once every 10 days. Before watering, check the condition of the soil surface. Water when you see it is dry and white. If it is still relatively wet, do not water it yet.

3. Apply fertilizer appropriately

After autumn, the temperature drops and its growth rate will increase. Therefore, it is necessary to apply diluted nitrogen fertilizer to it once every half a month to provide it with the nutrients it needs for growth.
