Mosquitoes are most afraid of these 8 kinds of flowers. If you grow one pot, you can get enough mosquito coils and floral water in the whole province!

1. Mosquito repellent grass

Mosquito repellent grass is also known as scented geranium. Because it can repel mosquitoes, people call it mosquito repellent grass.

Mosquito repellent effect

The smell of mosquito repellent grass contains citronellal, which will be stronger when the temperature exceeds 15 degrees. It can not only repel mosquitoes but also purify the air in the home. For a room of about 15 square meters, it is enough to put at most 2 pots.

Cutting maintenance of mosquito repellent grass

Mosquito repellent grass is very easy to propagate by cuttings, and it’s not too late to plant it now! Cut 5-8 cm long branches. In order to ensure the survival rate, you can cut a few more branches together for cuttings.

Find a few plastic cups, poke a few holes in the bottom (for drainage and ventilation), and fill them with moist sand or coconut coir soil.

Insert the branches into the soil, one branch per cup, and place them in a cool place to avoid being exposed to the sun. Spray water every day to keep them moist. After about 7-15 days of rooting, you can change the pot together with the soil.

Mosquito repellent grass can be grown indoors or outdoors. Just avoid high temperatures and exposure to the sun. Water it when the soil is dry. The leaves tend to turn yellow and wither due to its fast metabolism. They will continue to grow after being picked off.

2. Tuberose

Many mosquitoes come out at night, which is really annoying. Hurry up and grow a pot of night-blooming jasmine to make them lose their sense of direction at night!

Effects of tuberose

The fragrance of tuberose is strong, especially stronger at night, which can drive away mosquitoes that are active at night. However, it is recommended to grow flowers in the living room or balcony. Placing them in the bedroom may affect sleep.

Cutting maintenance of tuberose

In addition to sowing, tuberose can also be directly planted by cuttings, which is faster and more convenient! One-year-old branches are cut into 6-12 cm segments, and the leaves are cut off to preserve nutrients.

Soak the branches in rooting water or cut them into acidic leaf humus, coconut husk soil, or coal slag soil. Place them in a cool place, spray them with water every day, keep the air and soil moist, and they will take root in about 2-3 weeks.

Tuberose prefers a hot and humid environment and can bloom from May to October. This heat and humidity-resistant flower is easiest to grow in summer and will grow vigorously as long as it is watered enough every 1-2 days!

3. Venus Flytrap

This guy eats mosquitoes and flies. Although it looks like a mung bean sprout, its two "mouths" with teeth are very fierce.

Once the mosquito crawls onto the pod of the Venus flytrap, its mouth will immediately close, trapping the mosquito, and then secrete digestive juice to digest the insect and absorb it as its own nutrition.

The efficacy of Venus flytrap

Although the Venus flytrap can catch flies, mosquitoes, and small black bugs, it is relatively passive and requires mosquitoes to come to it, so you can plant more of them to increase its lethality! Note: Venus flytraps are harmless to humans

Venus flytrap sowing and maintenance

Venus flytraps can be sown directly. Prepare a transparent disposable lunch box, poke a few holes on the lid for ventilation, put some moist shredded sphagnum moss in the lunch box, and sprinkle the seeds in it.

After sowing, place it in a cool place, away from the sun, and keep the moss moist. It will germinate in less than a week.

Venus flytraps like moisture and should be kept in a cool place indoors. It is best to plant them with sphagnum moss. Spray them with water every 1-2 days and small "pods" will grow soon.

4. Drosera

Don’t underestimate the small size of the sundew, it can be said to be a real "mosquito killer". As soon as mosquitoes smell it, they will run into its trap, killing them quickly, fiercely and accurately!

The benefits of sundew

Sundew is more effective against mosquitoes and small black flies, and occasionally catches some large insects. It is best to clean up the large insects manually, otherwise it will be difficult to digest and affect the appearance.

Planting and maintenance of sundew

Sundew is similar to Venus flytrap. Use moistened shredded sphagnum moss, scatter the seeds, spray water every day, and wait for them to germinate.

It takes about 20 days for the sundew to grow into shape. You can divide the individual plants into pots or not, depending on your preference.

The "little water drops" on the sundew are its unique juice, which is used to stick to small insects, so don't drop them. When watering, be sure to pour water into the pot, or spray water upward to increase the air humidity.

5. Pyrethrum

Many flower lovers have many flowers in their yards and balconies, which easily attract mosquitoes and are a headache. So plant pyrethrum as soon as possible. Its pyrethrin is one of the raw materials of mosquito coils and can drive mosquitoes away!

The efficacy of pyrethrum

Pyrethrum is very suitable for planting in yards and balconies to repel mosquitoes. Many botanical gardens will plant pyrethrum on a large scale to prevent excessive mosquitoes in summer. The picture below is a pyrethrum hill in Hiroshima, Japan. It is so beautiful.

Sowing and maintenance of pyrethrum

Ordinary garden soil can be used to sow pyrethrum. Keep the soil moist during the period. No watering is needed. Spray it with a spray bottle every 1-2 days, and it will sprout in 3-5 days.

Pyrethrum is relatively heat-resistant and drought-resistant. The seedlings can be exposed to light in 2-3 weeks. With normal maintenance, as long as they are not exposed to direct sunlight, they will bloom in about 1 month.

6. Fragrant wood

Fragrant wood is a common green potted plant that can be grown at home or in the office. It not only absorbs formaldehyde and purifies the air, but also can repel mosquitoes. However, 90% of the fragrant wood on the market are fake pepper wood, so everyone must distinguish them!

The effect of fragrant wood

Fragrant wood also relies on its smell to repel insects. Its smell is similar to citrus peels, and small insects will run away when they smell it. Some of them have a lighter smell. You can keep 2-3 pots at home.

The difference between fragrant wood and pepper wood

The tip of the leaf of the fragrant wood is a pair of leaves, while the pepper tree has only one leaf. Flower lovers who have fragrant wood at home should take a look and see if you have also been fooled.

The new leaves of the fragrant wood are red, while the new leaves of the pepper tree are green.

Only fragrant wood can repel mosquitoes, but pepper wood cannot repel mosquitoes, so everyone must keep their eyes open.

7. Mugwort

I believe everyone is familiar with mugwort. It is a mosquito repellent grass that is familiar to the Chinese people. It can be seen everywhere in the 1990s, but it is becoming less and less common now.

How to repel mosquitoes with mugwort

Prepare a relatively heat-resistant container, such as a ceramic basin or an iron can, and put dry mugwort in it. After lighting it, be careful not to make the fire too big, just let it ferment slowly. Please pay attention to safety and avoid accidents.

Boil fresh wormwood for half an hour, and the smell will spread throughout the house. This can also repel mosquitoes, and it is safe and easy to operate (recommended by Huahua)

Add some water to the newly picked mugwort and rub it to get the juice. Put it in a small spray bottle and spray it on the flowers and plants on the balcony that attract mosquitoes. It can not only repel mosquitoes but also kill insects.

Of course, the most direct way is to tie up the wormwood and hang it upside down behind the door or on the wall. The smell can last for more than half a year, and after it dries, you can soak your feet to promote blood circulation.

8. Sedum sedum

Having said so much about mosquito repellent, let’s talk about another one that can “cure” mosquitoes. Sedum sedum is also known as feicai, which is a very effective antipruritic medicine.

The efficacy of Sedum sedum

Sedum sanqi has medicinal uses, especially when you are bitten by mosquitoes and it itches unbearably. Pick a few leaves and rub the juice out to rub on the bites. It can quickly relieve itching and pain, and is more effective than cooling oil and floral water.

Propagation and maintenance of Sedum sedum

Sedum can be grown as a weed. Just pinch off the head and throw it into a water bottle, and it will quickly take root. You can also plant it in the soil and keep the soil moist.

Mature Sedum Panax notoginseng does not require special care. It can be planted in ordinary garden soil and watered when the soil is dry. You can pinch a few branches for use and they will grow more later.
