What is the best season to plant papaya?

The planting time of papaya is generally divided by season. Most areas plant it in spring or autumn, specifically from February to March or from September to November. In Taiwan, it can be planted all year round.

There are many varieties of papaya. The more common ones are papaya, wild papaya, hairy-leaf papaya, Xuan papaya, smooth-skinned papaya, wrinkled-skinned papaya, etc. However, there is not much difference in the planting time of different varieties of papaya.

Papaya harvest season

The papaya matures in autumn, specifically from September to October every year, but now it can be eaten all year round. With proper management, the yield per mu can reach about 10,000 catties, and the price per catty is around 4-6 yuan.

Papaya planting steps and methods

1. Collecting seeds

Collect mature papaya seeds in August and September every year, wash them and soak them in soda water for about 5 hours.

2. Soil treatment

Plow the planting soil about 10 centimeters deep, then expose it to the sun for disinfection, and finally add some base fertilizer to the bottom of the pit.

3. Planting

Place the processed seeds on the soil and broadcast them. Cover them with soil and then cover them with grass to keep them warm and promote the seeds to germinate as soon as possible.
