The difference between Staghorn Begonia and Jasper Lotus

The difference between Staghorn Begonia and Jasper Lotus

Posture and characteristics

First of all, let’s talk about the jade lotus. Its most obvious feature is that there are translucent stripes visible to the naked eye on the edges and backs of the leaves, so we can identify it based on this feature. Its flowering period is between January and February every year. The flowers are purple and very beautiful.

The Staghorn Begonia does not grow very tall and is an evergreen succulent plant. Its mesophyll is triangular in shape and looks quite special. In winter, it can also bloom white, red and light purple flowers. There are usually two varieties of Staghorn crabapple, which differ in the length of their leaves. Both species produce yellow flowers in summer.

Growth status

When growing jade lotus, the air permeability of the soil must be ensured. Peat needs to be mixed with coarse-grained stone, and the ratio of the two can be matched at will. In summer, Jade Lotus will enter a dormant stage. They should be placed in a cool location with good air circulation and sprayed with water mist on time. In winter, reduce the amount of water and keep the temperature not lower than 0 degrees to survive the winter.

Staghorn Begonia is relatively drought-resistant, but it cannot grow in a high temperature environment. In summer, you should pay attention to cooling it down, and watering should be determined according to the moisture content of the soil itself. This plant generally does not go dormant in summer, so you can just grow it in a cool and ventilated environment indoors. The cool season is when it grows most vigorously. When it is relatively cold, you can stop watering it, which will help it survive the winter safely.
