Disease and insect pest control of onion

Disease and insect pest control of onion

The main diseases and pests that may occur in deer onions are the following. Let us understand the prevention and control methods for different diseases one by one.

Diseases

Carbon blast

Charcoal blast is a common disease of onions. Before planting, soak the bulbs in copper sulfate solution (concentration 0.3%) for about half an hour, take them out, rinse them with water, and dry them before planting to prevent the occurrence of charcoal blast. If the disease has already occurred, you can use 2500 times diluted benlate (concentration 50%) to spray on the deer onion for treatment in the early stage.

Pests

Spodoptera litura

The biggest harm caused by the fall armyworm is that its larvae will eat the flowers, leaves and fruits of the onion, causing great damage to the onion. Generally, insect pests occur from late spring to November. It is recommended to spray with 2500 times diluted Fipronil suspension (concentration 5%) for prevention and control. It can have a good effect.

Lycoris radiata

The plants of the deer onion will be attacked by the Lycoris radiata moth. Generally, the entire leaf will be hollowed out, leaving behind green-brown pest feces that must be cleaned up in time. If it happens, you can use 1500 times diluted Lorsban or 800 times diluted chlorpyrifos emulsifiable concentrate. The best time to spray is in the morning and evening, and the effect will be better.

Thrips

The leafy part of the bulb of the onion is most susceptible to the sucking damage of thrips. This pest will cause the green color of the leaves of the onion to fade, which is especially common when the fruits of the onion are ripening. You can use a 3000-fold diluted imidacloprid (25%) and a 6,000-10,000-fold diluted Aimilo (70%) to cycle and alternate between spraying for prevention and control.

The pest and disease medicines mentioned above can be purchased at the flower market.
