Longevity bamboo, also known as bamboo cypress , is native to Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong and other places in China. Its leaves are full, emerald green and shiny, the plant is upright, evergreen all the year round, and very ornamental. Let's talk about the cultivation methods and precautions of longevity bamboo. 1. Soil Kalanchoe bamboo likes to grow in loose, fertile, well-drained and breathable sandy soil. In such soil, the plant's root system grows vigorously. If the root system is well maintained, the plant will also grow strong. Therefore, when flower lovers prepare soil for Kalanchoe, they usually use a mixture of coal slag, leaf mold, and sandy soil. They can also buy nutrient soil for planting. Be sure not to use clay. 2. Temperature The right temperature can keep the plant growing well. The most suitable temperature for the growth of longevity bamboo is 18°C-26°C. When growing in summer, you should pay attention to cooling down and preventing heatstroke. Kalanchoe has a certain degree of cold resistance and can safely survive the winter as long as the temperature is not lower than -7℃. 3. Lighting Kalanchoe is very afraid of strong light, so it is best to grow it in a place with sufficient diffuse light. Especially from May to September, it is necessary to protect it from the sun in time, and a shade net can be used to block the sunlight. In winter, the lighting time can be appropriately increased to benefit the growth of the plants. 4. Watering The root system of Kalanchoe is relatively fragile, so do not water it too much, as this will easily cause waterlogging in the pot soil and lead to root rot. Under normal circumstances, you can water it once every three days to keep the soil slightly moist. 5. Fertilization Kalanchoe does not require much fertilizer . You can choose alum fertilizer water or urea to fertilize it. The time for fertilization is generally chosen during the seedling stage and the growing period of the longevity bamboo. Artificial fertilizers can be selected during the seedling stage, and compound fertilizers should be selected during the growing period. Fertilization can be done once every half a month. 6. Pruning When the longevity bamboo enters its dormant period, it needs to be pruned. It is necessary to cut off the dead branches and broken branches on the plants to avoid nutrient loss and increase the air circulation inside the plants. 7. Pests and diseases Common diseases of Kalanchoe include black spot, powdery mildew, anthracnose, etc. Black spot infection can be controlled by spraying 800 times diluted 40% carbendazim or 400-500 times diluted 65% mancozeb. Common insect pests include aphids and scale insects. Aphids can be controlled with 3000-5000 times diluted 50% cypermethrin or 1500-2000 times diluted 40% oxydemeton-methyl. That’s it |
