Forsythia suspensa blooms in several years and enters the fruit-bearing period in several years

Forsythia suspensa blooms in several years and enters the fruit-bearing period in several years

1. How many years does Forsythia suspensa bloom?

There is more than one way to propagate Forsythia. Different propagation methods will result in different growth and development conditions and flowering periods. If propagation is done by sowing, the seedlings will grow slowly and may only bloom after three or four years of care. If it is propagated by cuttings, it is possible that it will bloom in the same year, or at the latest in the second year. However, the number of flowers at the beginning is relatively small.

2. When does Forsythia enter its fruit-bearing period?

If you want Forsythia to bloom and bear fruit, it usually takes more than three years of care. Even if it can bloom in the early stage, the number of fruits is limited and relatively small. Generally, it will take 8 to 10 years of maintenance before it enters the fruit-bearing period, and the fruit yield will become stable and abundant. Each plant can produce 15-20 kg of green currant, which is profitable.

3. What to do if Forsythia does not bear fruit

The failure of Forsythia to bear fruit may be caused by self-pollination. The self-pollination fruit-bearing rate is relatively low, only about 4%. If you want it to produce more fruits, it is best to allow it to cross-pollinate. When planting, plants with long and short styles should be planted alternately to increase the fruit setting rate. It may also be due to improper management, such as lack of nutrients, untimely pruning, etc. During the management period, pruning should be carried out in time to cut off the overgrown branches and save nutrient consumption. You should also apply fertilizer frequently. If there is enough nutrients, the plant will grow naturally vigorously and produce better and more fruits.
