The legend of the quince

Legend 1

There is a legend about the Gentleman that is related to Liu Bei during the Three Kingdoms period.

It is said that Liu Bei's son Liu Chan suffered from a strange disease. He was pale and thin, weak all over, had a bloated stomach, and cried frequently. One day, Liu Chan went to play in the wild, but when he came back he was vomiting and having diarrhea, and he was crying in pain. Liu Bei asked the soldiers around Liu Chan what had happened. One of the soldiers said tremblingly: "The young master saw a wild fruit and insisted on picking it, so we let him take a few to play with, but who knew..." When Liu Bei heard this, he thought the boy was poisoned, so he went to find a doctor.

Afterwards, Liu Chan passed out a lot of roundworms and other impurities and stopped crying. He also said he was hungry. After eating some porridge, he passed out some more roundworms and then calmed down.

Later, Liu Chan's health gradually improved. Liu Bei believed that the wild fruits saved his life, so he collected these wild fruits and made medicinal powder to cure the strange disease.

Later, people thought that the wild fruit had no name, and the first person to taste it was the son of Liu Shijun, so he called it "Shijunzi".

Legend II

This legend happened during the Northern Song Dynasty. There was a doctor named Guo Shijun in Panzhou who was very skilled in medicine and always willing to help others.

One day, he went to the mountain to collect herbs and found a kind of fruit. After tasting it, he found it sweet and light, so he picked some and took them home. After returning home, he fried the fruits in a pan. The pan gave off an aromatic aroma, which made his grandson want to eat it. After he gave it to his grandson to taste, his grandson passed several roundworms in his stool. Envoy Guo then figured out a way to treat roundworms. Later, Guo Shijun used this method to treat other sick children. In order to commemorate him, people named this plant Shijunzi.
