How to grow and propagate Shrimp Flower

How to grow and propagate Shrimp Flower

1. How to raise

1. Light: Shrimp grass prefers light, so sufficient light must be ensured during the growing period. However, it is also shade-tolerant to a certain extent, so it doesn’t matter if it does not receive light for a short period of time. However, if there is insufficient light for a long time, the color of the plant's bracts will fade, affecting its ornamental value and not conducive to flowering. In addition, the light in summer is too strong and proper shade is needed.

2. Temperature: Shrimp flower is suitable for growing in warm places. If the climate is relatively cold, the plant is easily frostbitten, affecting its development. The temperature must be controlled between 18-28℃ so that the plants can grow rapidly. It should not be lower than 5-10℃ in winter, otherwise they will easily be frostbitten. When the temperature is high in summer, it is necessary to spray water to cool down.

3. Soil: Like many plants, Shrimp Flower is suitable for growing in loose and fertile soil. Good drainage and air permeability can help the roots grow and breathe. If you want to prepare the potting soil yourself, you can mix loam, leaf mold and coarse sand. Disinfect it before potting and spread it in a sunny place to dry it in the sun.

4. Water and fertilizer: The growth of shrimp flower cannot be separated from sufficient water. It needs to be watered frequently to keep the soil moist. In addition, during its growth period, organic fertilizer should be added every 10-15 days, and a little phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be added before flowering, which can promote flowering. Continue to use less water and stop fertilizing in winter to avoid affecting development.

2. How to breed

The main method of propagation of Shrimp Flower is cuttings. Usually thick branches are selected as cuttings, with a length between 8-15 cm. The upper leaves are retained and the rest are removed. Insert the branches into vermiculite, pay attention to shade and moisture retention, and they will take root in about two weeks.
