Steps for growing lucky bamboo in water

Steps for growing lucky bamboo in water

1. Choose a container

Choose the corresponding container according to the form of water culture and the length of the material, such as a shallow-edged flower pot for shaped water culture. If the plant does not require high water levels, nearby wine bottles, beverage bottles, etc. can also be used.

2. Maintenance forms and methods

1. Plant in pots and water

Take out the potted plant with its roots, wash it, cut off some old roots and residual roots, and grow it directly in water.

2. Water plugging of branches

Cut off mature branches with good growth, use a sharp knife to cut the base of the cuttings slightly into an oblique cut, and make the blade smooth to increase the absorption area of water and nutrients. Insert the base leaves into the bottle, and submerge the base in water 1-2 cm deep. Silvery-white fibrous roots will grow in about 15 days.

3. Single or multiple branches in water

When growing a single branch in water, the mouth of the vase should not be too large, and the height of the vase should be about one-third of the height of the branch. When growing multiple branches in water, the mouth of the vase should be large, and the branches should be cut into the same length and inserted obliquely to form a geometric composition with the vase.

4. Modeling water maintenance

When lucky bamboo is still a young plant, it can be made into various shapes by twisting and bending the branches, and it can maintain the shape after maturity. The mature stems have strong ability to sprout and take root, and can be cut to different lengths and shaped into tower shapes through a binding process. This is the product called lucky bamboo on the market. Choose a shallow pot that is slightly larger than the stem of the tower, place the tower in it, and add clean water to slightly cover the base of the tower.

3. Daily care

1. It is not easy to change water frequently after rooting

Water should be added in time after the water evaporates. Frequent water changes can easily cause yellowing leaves and wilting branches. It is best to use well water or purified water. If tap water is used, it should be stored in a container for one day first. The water should be kept clean and fresh. It is best to use purified water during the hot summer months to avoid root rot or algae growth.

2. Water changes

After the cuttings are inserted into the bottle, change the water every 3-4 days. You can add a few small pieces of charcoal to prevent corrosion. Do not move the position or change the direction within 10 days.

3. Nutritional addition

For lucky bamboo grown in water, you can inject a few drops of brandy into the bottle every three weeks or so, or dissolve half a tablet of powdered aspirin or a tablet of vitamin C in 500 grams of water and then add a few drops when adding the water to keep the leaves green.

4. Rot treatment

When there are rotten scenes or roots, the rotten parts should be removed in time, soaked in a 1000-fold aqueous solution of 75% mycochloridum for 30 minutes, then rinsed with clean water and continued to be cultivated in water.

5. Note the following points

To avoid the leaf tips and edges from drying out, do not place lucky bamboo near a TV or in places where it is frequently blown by air conditioners or electric fans.
