How to grow radish on the balcony

How to grow radish on the balcony

1. Variety selection:

Choose radish varieties that grow faster, and select new seeds produced in the same year that have full grains, no damage, and a high germination rate.

2. Planting environment:

Radishes do not have high requirements for their growing environment. They do not need too much light, but they require fresh air and smooth ventilation. It can be maintained on an open-air balcony.

3. Specifications of foam box:

Radish plants are short growing plants and do not require very deep boxes. Usually the foam box is 60 cm long, 40 cm wide and 25 cm deep, and the bottom should be flat and have exhaust holes.

4. Sowing:

Wash the seeds and discard those floating on the water surface.

Soak the selected seeds in warm water at 20℃ for 12-17 hours, changing the water 1-2 times during this period.

Place a piece of newspaper at the bottom of the foam box, spread 2 cm of river sand, evenly spread the soaked seeds in the box, and cover it with a layer of black plastic film to keep warm, moisturize, and block light. The temperature in the box should be maintained at 23-28℃, and water should be sprayed 2-3 times a day.

5. Cultivation and management:

The most suitable growth temperature for radish is 18~25℃. In summer, you can spray it frequently to cool it down, and cover it with plastic bags to keep it warm in winter. Water 3 to 4 times a day during the growth period and soak it thoroughly.

6. Harvesting:

Radish grows rapidly. Under normal maintenance conditions, it takes 7 to 8 days from sowing to harvest in summer and autumn, and 8 to 10 days in winter and spring. When the sprouts grow to 12 to 15 cm and the top leaf petals do not show signs of stem rot, cotyledons, or fibrous roots, they can be harvested by simply pulling them out and separating the leaves from the radish (the radish at this time is very tender, sweet, and less spicy, and very delicious!). The leaves can be directly stir-fried or made into soup.
