Diseases and prevention of Sansevieria

Sansevieria leaf spot

Symptoms of harm

Leaf spot disease mainly occurs on leaves. In the early stage of the disease, nearly circular or oblong spots appear on the leaves. The edges of the spots are light yellow and slightly concave. There are many lesions on the leaves, which are easy to fuse and the leaves die. In the later stage, the lesions fall off and become perforated. The spots close to the ground are prone to rot, causing the stem base to rot or the entire plant to fall over.

Prevention and treatment methods

During the maintenance process, reduce watering, keep the soil slightly moist, and lower the humidity of the soil to effectively prevent leaf spot disease.
When the disease occurs, Bordeaux mixture or 53.8% Kesaid 2000 dry suspension can be used in the early stage, and spray continuously for 2 to 3 times with an interval of 5 to 7 days. When spraying, change the pesticide in time to prevent the plants from developing resistance.

Tiger rot disease

Symptoms of harm

In the early stage of the disease, water-soaked spots will appear on the leaves of the plant. Gradually, the spots will change from round to irregular, dark gray, soft and slightly concave. Subsequently, the spots will dry up and become concave, and black mold spots will appear on the leaves in a humid environment.

Prevention and treatment methods

When diseased plants are found, remove the diseased leaves in time and change the pots and soil. The soil must be disinfected before replanting. You can mix pentachloronitrobenzene with the soil or spray the soil with soil bacteria disinfectant.
When the disease is serious, spray 50% carbendazim or 800 times diluted thiophanate-methyl once every 5 to 7 days and stop when you see improvement.

Bacterial soft rot of Sansevieria

Symptoms of harm

When the plant is infected, the leaves will change from green to light yellow to gray-yellow, and water-soaked soft rot will appear at the base of the stem close to the ground. In the later stage, the plant will gradually bend over, and the roots will rot and die. The disease is particularly serious during the spring and summer when there is high temperature, heavy rain and typhoon weather.

Prevention and treatment methods

The temperature in winter and spring should be controlled above 10℃, watering should be controlled, and appropriate shade should be provided. During the peak growing seasons in spring and autumn, apply appropriate amounts of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to improve the plant's disease resistance.

Disinfect the soil before planting, and it is best to choose disease-free soil or burned soil.

If diseased plants are found, remove them immediately and clean them up. If it is discovered in time, you can use 2000 times diluted streptomycin sulfate, spray it once every 5 to 7 days, and spray it 2 to 3 times continuously.

Anthracnose of Tiger Piranha

Symptoms of harm

Anthracnose lesions start at the tip or edge of the leaves, are brown, and have obvious or unclear ring patterns on the surface. Small black spots, scattered or regularly arranged, form on the diseased leaves. The incidence rate is higher in the south under hot and humid weather conditions, especially from April to June when the disease is more serious.

Prevention and treatment methods

If diseased leaves are found in winter and spring, they should be cut off promptly, and additional phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied. Water should be controlled appropriately, and normal maintenance should be performed after the plant grows new leaves.
At the early stage of the disease, spray 800 times diluted 50% Anthraquinone WP, or 1000 times diluted 75% Benomyl + 70% Thiophanate WP (1:1).
