How to grow blueberries on the balcony

Seedling selection

Go directly to the market to buy blueberry seedlings. It is best to choose 2-3 year old seedlings. It is cheap and easy to grow.

Select pot

Clay pots are the best choice for growing blueberries. It is highly breathable and cheap, and its only drawback is that the black color is not very beautiful. If you can't buy a clay basin, you can also choose a ceramic basin, but forget about the porcelain one. As for the size of the pot, you can choose a pot with a diameter of 25 to 30 cm for the seedlings, and then change to a larger pot when they grow bigger.

Soil preparation

Blueberries grow best in acidic soil, with a pH value between 4 and 5 being the most suitable. This is a problem. The pH value of ordinary garden soil is between 6 and 7, and the pH value of acidic soil sold in the flower and bird market is also between 5.5 and 6. So what you need at this time is special soil for blueberry planting. Don't be careless. If the pH cannot be guaranteed, you must buy special soil.

Colonization

When the seedlings grow 3 to 4 leaves, you can move them to a larger pot and plant them. After planting, place it in a cool and ventilated place for a week, then move it to the balcony and maintain it normally.

Maintenance

Blueberries like a humid environment, especially in summer. Water them every day, but be careful not to let water accumulate in the pot.

During the rainy season, do not move indoors immediately. As long as the flowerpot is water-permeable, you can let the blueberries be exposed to the rain outdoors a few times. You will find that the blueberry leaves are green and full of vitality after the rain, and their growth rate has increased.

Blueberries like plenty of sunlight, and as long as the temperature does not exceed 40 degrees, they will not be killed by the heat in the sun. However, due to the lack of sunlight, the growth of blueberries stagnated and even if they bloomed, they would not bear fruit.

Blueberries do not require much fertilizer, and the fertilizer applied before planting is sufficient to meet their growth needs. However, in order to eat better blueberries, it is recommended to apply fertilizer at the right time.
