The weather is too hot, and the mints are all in a bad mood. If we don’t save them, they will all die!

Whitefly

If you find that the mint leaves in your home are sticky and you see small white flying insects upon closer inspection, they are whiteflies!

Solution:

1. Leaf pulling method

Simply cut off all leaves with whiteflies to destroy their nests. Don't feel bad, this is the most effective way to get rid of whiteflies.

2. Freezing method

Find a plastic bottle, fill it with water, place it in the sun for a day, then put it in the refrigerator to freeze it into ice water, pour it into a spray bottle and spray it on both sides of the leaves. Be careful not to operate in the sun. Wait until the water on the leaves is dry before putting them in the sun.

Whiteflies are very afraid of cold, but mint is a cold-resistant and heat-resistant plant, so there is no need to worry about mint being frostbitten.

3. Homemade sticky insect board

Insert some wooden sticks around the mint pot and wrap it with yellow tape to make a homemade sticky insect board, and use the whiteflies' tendency to move toward yellow to kill them.

Peppermint pests: red spider mites

Turn over the back of the mint leaves, and you will see a bunch of small red dots densely packed together. Don't doubt it, they must be red spider mites.

Solution:

1. Ventilation and leaf picking

Ventilate the area, observe the back of the mint leaves, and remove any diseased leaves immediately.

2. Homemade chili water

Cut some pointed peppers, choose the spicy kind, add water to about 30 times the amount of the peppers, boil for 30 minutes, put them in a bottle and spray them on the surface of the mint leaves. It is very effective against red spider mites.

Diseases of mint

Rust

The disease is more likely to occur during continuous rainy days or excessive drought from May to July. Triadimefon emulsifiable concentrate can be used for prevention and control.

Leaf spot

It usually occurs from May to October. Diseased leaves should be removed in time. At the same time, spray 500 times diluted 65% Zineb wettable powder at the early stage of the disease.

Blackleg

Black shank disease usually occurs in the seedling stage, causing the stems of mint to become soft and black, causing the entire plant to fall over and wither. For prevention and control, you can spray 70% of Benomyl mixed with water during the disease period.

Huahua reminds: If you don’t want to spray the sick mint with pesticides, just cut off all the sick leaves and put it in a windy and sunny place to let it recover slowly.

Curled Edge Burnt Leaves

Cause

There is a layer of fuzz on the surface of mint leaves, so water tends to accumulate on the leaves when watering. Long-term soaking will cause the new shoots to wither and die.

Solution

In this case, you can increase ventilation appropriately. Avoid direct rain on rainy days and do not spray water on the leaves.

Daily care of mint

temperature

The most suitable temperature for mint growth is between 20℃ and 30℃. As long as the moisture is appropriate in summer, the higher the temperature, the better the mint will grow at home.

Moisture

When watering in summer, you can observe the moisture level of the soil in the pot. If the soil turns white, you should water it quickly and make sure to water it thoroughly. If you have rice washing water at home, save some of it to water the mint, it will grow better.

soil

Sandy soil is best, and the soil should be kept loose and breathable at all times.

Even as the mint continues to grow, it should be pruned and shaped, and then top-dressed around the base of the plant, with a nitrogen fertilizer, urea, applied once a month.
