How to remedy the shriveled roots of Clivia

How to remedy the shriveled roots of Clivia

1. Causes of this phenomenon

There are many reasons for this situation, the main ones are as follows. First, the soil permeability is poor. Second, there is too much water and water accumulation is serious. The third is that there are many pests in the soil. If all three aspects are present, the roots will easily dry up. Once discovered, deal with it immediately. If the situation is not too serious, the plant will recover. However, if it is left untreated for a long time, the roots will become increasingly dry and shrunken, and it may be too late to save them.

2. Treatment measures

(1) First, carefully remove the plant from the pot and straighten out its roots.

(2) Next, you need to clean its roots and then cut off the shriveled roots. If you find rotten roots or empty roots, you can cut them off together.

(3) After pruning, soak it in disinfectant for a while, such as carbendazim, potassium permanganate, etc. It doesn't need to be too long, ten minutes is probably enough.

(4) After completing the above steps, you need to place it in a cool, well-ventilated place for about two days.

(5) After drying, replace the soil with new one and plant the seeds. You also need to pay attention to the new soil, as there are requirements. First, it should be loose and breathable, with good drainage and more humus. And, it is best to be sandy. Generally speaking, leaf mold can be used. If conditions permit, you can mix leaf mold with river sand and add some decomposed organic fertilizer. Note that you can place it in the sun for a day or two before repotting. In this way, the bacteria inside can be effectively eliminated and pests can be driven away.
