Peanuts are a legume crop that can be used as an oil crop or the fruit can be eaten directly. The economic benefits of peanuts are relatively high among crops. Many farmers grow peanuts. So when should peanuts be planted? Let’s take a look below. 1. When should peanuts be planted? The best time to plant peanuts varies depending on climate and region, but generally speaking, spring and summer are the best times to plant. In the northern regions, spring sowing is generally carried out in late March to early April; in the southern regions, due to the warmer climate, sowing can be carried out in advance in late February to early March. Summer sowing is mainly suitable for southern regions and is generally carried out from June to July. 2. Peanut Planting Methods 1. Site selection and land preparation First, choose a suitable planting site. Peanuts prefer to grow in well-drained, deep sandy loam rich in organic matter. Avoid choosing land with repeated cropping to reduce the occurrence of soil-borne diseases. Next, deep tillage should be carried out, with a depth of 25-30 cm to increase soil permeability and break up the plow bottom layer. 2. Seed selection and sowing Selecting high-quality and high-yield peanut varieties that are adapted to the local ecological environment is the basis for increasing peanut production . Before sowing, enhance the vitality of the seeds and dry them in the sun. The sowing time varies from region to region. Generally, spring sowing is from mid-to-late April to early May, and summer sowing is no later than June 15th. The sowing density should be determined according to the characteristics of the variety and soil fertility. The general sowing amount per mu is about 20-25 kilograms. 3. Fertilization and watering Peanut fertilization should follow the principle of "promote at the beginning, control in the middle, and supplement at the end". Before sowing, apply sufficient base fertilizer, mainly organic fertilizer , with appropriate amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. During the growing period, topdressing should be carried out according to the growth conditions of peanuts and soil fertility. At the same time, proper watering is also crucial. Peanuts are sensitive to water demand, especially during the flowering and pod-setting stages, and the soil must be kept moderately moist. 4. Field management During the growth period of peanuts, timely tillage and weeding should be carried out to reduce the competition between weeds and peanuts for nutrients. At the same time, pay attention to the prevention and control of diseases and pests, such as leaf spot, rust, aphids, etc. Once pests and diseases are discovered, timely measures should be taken to prevent and control them to avoid affecting the yield and quality of peanuts. 5. Harvest and storage When the upper leaves of the peanut plant turn yellow and the middle and lower leaves begin to fall off, it means that the peanuts are ripe and can be harvested. After harvesting, the moisture content of the pods should be reduced to below 10% and dried in time for easy storage. During storage, keep the container ventilated and dry to prevent insect infestation and mildew. That’s it |
