How to propagate the cuttings of the bird's nest

How to propagate the cuttings of the bird's nest

The bird's nest palm is also known as the bean palm. Its leaves are very beautiful, round or oval, relatively flat, and have a good luster. The color is usually green or dark green. Many people like to grow this plant. Let's talk about the cutting method of the bird's nest palm.

1. Cutting method of Swallow's Palm

1. Choose the right time for cuttings: It is best to do cuttings in spring or summer, when the plants grow vigorously and the success rate of cuttings is higher.

2. Choose a healthy mother plant: Choose a healthy mother plant of the Crassula ovata that is free of diseases and pests. Make sure the mother plant is mature and has enough nutrients to support the growth of the new plant.

3. Prepare the cutting materials: you need a pair of sharp scissors or knives , a dry and breathable cutting medium (such as vermiculite, perlite or sand), and a suitable cutting container.

4. Cuttings: Cut healthy side branches from the mother plant, about 5-10 cm in length. It is best to use a knife rather than tearing by hand to avoid damaging the plant tissue.

5. Treat the wound: Let the cuttings dry for a while so that a scab can form on the surface of the wound, reducing the chance of bacterial infection.

6. Cuttings: Insert the cuttings into the prepared cutting medium, and the depth can be 1/3-1/2 of the medium. Lightly compact the medium to secure the cuttings.

7. Keep moist: After cuttings, keep the medium moist, but do not overwater to avoid cutting rot.

8. Provide a suitable environment: Place the cuttings in a bright place but avoid direct sunlight and keep them well ventilated. Avoid exposing your cuttings to strong sunlight to prevent overheating.

9. Root Growth: After about 2-4 weeks, the cuttings should begin to take root. You can check for root growth by gently pulling on the cutting.

10. Transplantation: When the cuttings have a certain root system, they can be transplanted into a larger container. Continue to provide the appropriate amount of water and sunlight to allow the new plant to gradually adapt to its new environment.

2. Correct maintenance method of Swallow's Palm in summer

1. Proper watering: The bird's nest plant needs to be kept moderately moist in summer, but do not overwater it. Wait until the soil surface is completely dry before watering to avoid excessive waterlogging that can cause root rot.

2. Avoid strong sunlight: The strong sunlight in summer can easily cause burns to the leaves of the Swallow's Palm. Place the bird's nest palm in semi-shade, avoid direct exposure to the sun, and maintain moderate light.

3. Good ventilation: Succulents are prone to diseases and pests in summer. Maintaining good ventilation can reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests. But avoid strong winds to prevent the plants from breaking.

4. Fertilize regularly: Summer is the season when the Kuailao plant grows vigorously. Regular fertilization helps the plant grow healthily. Choose a diluted liquid fertilizer suitable for succulents and fertilize every 2-4 weeks.

5. Pay attention to insect and disease prevention: Summer is the season for the breeding of pests and pathogens. Check the leaves of the Kuailao regularly. If pests and diseases are found, take appropriate prevention and control measures in time, such as using pesticides or biological control.
