What to do if the Clerodendrum thomsoniae does not bloom

What to do if the Clerodendrum thomsoniae does not bloom

1. How long is the flowering period?

If it is grown in an ordinary household, its flowering period is from June to September. If it is grown professionally and the water and fertilizer are precisely controlled, it can bloom from May to December. You can help it grow more branches through pruning so that it can bloom more flowers.

In March and April every year, before new branches grow out, cut off all the upper branches about ten to fifteen centimeters above the flowerpot, so that the flowers can bloom in May. After the flowers wither, remove the pedicels, loosen the soil and add a thin layer of fertilizer. Flowers will grow again in August and September. After the flowers wither, prune the branches again, loosen the soil and add fertilizer. They will bloom again in early December.

2. Causes and measures for non-flowering

1. The first and most important reason is that flower lovers do not water it properly when growing it. Some people are afraid that it does not have enough water and will not grow well, so they always water it with a lot of water. Because the pot has been in a humid state for a long time, the roots cannot breathe smoothly, the leaves do not get enough nutrients, and they slowly turn yellow and fall off, which affects flowering. At this time, you should stop watering immediately, help the water in the pot to drain out, and then implement scientific watering.

During its growth period, give it enough water, but not too much. Do not water it too much when it is blooming, and do not get water on the flowers. Move it indoors in heavy rain, otherwise the water will knock the flowers down and the flowering period will be shortened. In the summer, place it in a windy and sheltered area. In the winter, when it temporarily stops growing, you should stop watering it.

2. It needs sunlight very much and requires sufficient light when growing and flowering. If its needs are not met, the stems will grow too long and affect flowering. Therefore, it must be given sufficient sunlight except in summer. If it lacks fertilizer during its growth, the number of flowers will be small, so you need to add a little thin fertilizer to it, and the proportion of water can be larger, use it as water fertilizer, add it about once a month, a total of three times will be enough.
