What is the cause of cactus sphere rot?

Cactus rot - caused by dyeing

The cactus will rot, probably because of the dyeing. Many of the cacti purchased on the market are colorful and look beautiful, but most of them are artificially dyed to show such bright colors. Not long after cultivation, flower lovers will find that the entire ball becomes soft and the inside has turned black, and in serious cases it will even emit a foul odor.

This is mainly because the dyed cactus will contain many chemical components. When watering, the chemicals can easily penetrate into the interior of the cactus along with the water, causing it to rot.

Cactus rot - improper watering

If the cactus has not been dyed but is still rotting, it is most likely due to watering.

Watering too much or letting water drip from the top of the cactus can easily cause the cactus to rot. Then timely measures need to be taken.

First of all, when watering, be sure to water the soil instead of pouring water on the sphere.

Secondly, if there is rot on the ball and the rot is minor, you can use a knife to cut off the rotten part of the cactus, then apply wood ash on the wound and place it in a cool and dry place to dry.

Also, when the cactus ball is severely rotten, you can cut off the rotten part, sprinkle some quicklime on it to burn the wound, repeat this several times, and then dry it. If it is summer, you can directly sprinkle heated sand on the wound of the cactus at noon when the weather is hot. After drying, you can resume normal management.
